As I approached 60 years of age, I was overweight, sedentary, and stressed, with many unhealthy habits developed over most of my adult life. Unforeseen circumstances in my life gave me the opportunity to make some needed changes to my lifestyle. I knew I wanted to look and feel better, and set out to do whatever it took to become more healthy. My son, Tim Smith, and his friend, Andrew Barker, both have been involved in fitness for many years. They encouraged me to start working out.
I began by working out with my personal trainer, Andrew Barker, three days a week for one hour each time. I began to feel much more energetic and have since added many other activities such as square dancing, Zumba, boxing, and country-western dancing. Over the last 18 months, I've lost 60 pounds and gone from a size 18 to a size 8, and I feel incredible. I no longer shy away from physical activity and I love to try new things. I no longer have to take medication to control my cholesterol levels, and my bone density has improved due to weight lifting and weight bearing exercise.
My advice to anyone wanting to lose weight and feel better, is to exercise vigorously for at least an hour per day and learn how to choose a healthy daily diet. The trainers and staff at Firehouse Fitness can provide all the tools needed to help you get started with YOUR diet and exercise program. Thank you so much, Tim and Andrew!
